Welcome, Caregivers. We honor and salute you!

Hospice of the Valley works with thousands of caregivers every year. Caring for someone with serious illness is one of the toughest things in life. There are decisions about day-to-day living and preparations to be made for the future, all interwoven with grief and loss.

Caregiving for Persons With Dementia

There are special challenges in caring for someone with dementia (Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewi body dementia). Hospice of the Valley has programs to help improve the caregiver's quality of life as well as help your loved one. This is accomplished through behavioral strategies and techniques, medication guidelines, massage, music, and pets.

  • Hospice Dementia Program – for patients with advanced dementia. Admission criteria may include speech limited to a few words; need help walking; incontinence or steadily losing weight.
  • H.O.M.E. (Helping Our Memory Impaired Elders) Program – an 8-12 week educational home health program for any person with dementia and their families/caregivers. This requires Medicare insurance (no managed care).
  • MediCaring™ – for patients with moderate to advanced dementia who have been in the hospital in the past year and would benefit from a nurse visit monthly or more often at no charge. This is a federally funded research project. Participation requires Medicare insurance (no managed care).
